LOGIC IN COMMUNICATIONS

Objective:

When competent people have difficulty communicating their ideas it is often because they don’t understand how to organize complicated material into logical, understandable and persuasive reports or presentations. Logic In Communications Workshops give business professionals a formula for communicating effectively in everything from emails, letters and reports to speeches and presentations. Like the accountant's GAAP, this formula has become Generally Accepted Communication Principles.

Overview:

You will learn the importance of stating your message at the beginning of a memo, report, or presentation. You will also learn to use a pyramid framework to clarify your thinking and make sure ideas are being presented logically and persuasively. You will also learn:

  • How to structure an introduction
  • How to maintain continuity in a presentation
  • How and when to present conclusions
  • How to use graphs and charts effectively

SPEAKING FREELY

Objective:

Style is important. If you appear nervous, lack energy, or fail to connect with the audience, you will have all the impact of a skywriter in a windstorm. However, if your goal is to inform and/or persuade, mere style is not enough. Each Speaking Freely Workshop is designed to help you combine style with substance; to communicate effectively in situations ranging from departmental meetings to presentations to shareholders and stock analysts.

Overview: Beyond Style

You will learn how to prepare a presentation (organize material and plan visual aids), how to prepare for a presentation (control the butterflies), how to maximize rehearsal time, and how to deliver effective presentations. The camera will be rolling as you make your workshop presentations, allowing you to see your performance and profit from the instructor’s critique. You will also learn:

  • The Two-Color Note Technique that allows you to speak with an extemporaneous style while remaining true to the content and wording of your written texts
  • Relaxation Techniques guaranteed to enable you to control your butterflies.

MEDIA AWARENESS

Objective:

The interview – on television, radio or with a print reporter – is an experience quite unlike normal dialogue between business professionals. Media Awareness Workshops teach you how to handle that experience effectively.

Overview:

Through on-camera experience with all kinds of media interview situations you will enhance your abilities and confidence. You will learn how to prepare for and own your own interview by having your own agenda and about the “care and feeding” of reporters. You will also learn:

  • The A-TEAM Question Answering Model
  • Defuse Techniques for Handling the Hostile (or uninformed) Reporter
  • How to Build Better Bridges from the question asked to positive message
  • How to Tame Your Butterflies
  • How to use your “not-live options” in taped news interviews

Because of David’s experience as a network correspondent, you will learn what makes reporters tick and how to use that information to improve your performance while giving reporters what they need.

WITNESS TRAINING

Objective:

Witnesses are usually selected because they know their subject matter inside and out. Unfortunately, all too often they discover on the witness stand that KNOWING IS NOT ENOUGH. Without an understanding of the techniques of testifying, many witnesses end up on the defensive rather than telling a positive story. Our Witness Training workshops teach the techniques and provide the opportunity to practice them in a no-risk environment.

Overview:

Since our emphasis is on learning by doing, participants learn the techniques and put them into practice in mock hearings designed to simulate the real thing. With videotape playback and critique (by trainers and lawyers), they are able to see themselves as others see them and focus on ways to tell their story more effectively. Participants learn:

  • The A-TEAM Direct Answer Model
  • To Handle Hostility with specific, testimony tested, defusing techniques
  • How to bridge from an answer to a strong, positive position statement
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • How to deliver an opening summary in an extemporaneous style while
remaining true to the content and wording of their written text
